Sawyer's transition from PICC line to Port
A couple months ago Sawyer told us and his team that he wanted to to transition from his PICC line to a Port.
He was so excited about the freedom this would give him! In preparation for the big day we made a countdown chart.
One of the last days Sawyer had his PICC line. He always had to be very carful with his line making sure it did not get wet. This always made playing around any water very tricky.
Port Day!!
Heading back to surgery.
Sawyer 's port being accessed for the first time. He did amazing! He only needed numbing cream!
The Child Life Specialists at Comer gave him this extra special Lego for doing such a great job getting his port.
Sawyer's first time playing in the water since he got his port! It has been so wonderful seeing the freedom it has given him!

Surgery
When Sawyer came out of his 8 hour surgery he had 5 pumps and 3 IV lines going into him.
At the hospital they have various games in the family life center and they stream them on the TV so kids in their room can play too. We’ve played a couple times but Sawyer never won. Well on Monday he played Body Parts Bingo and won this new camera. He was so excited!
On Tuesday Aunt Lisa, Grandma Williams, Grandma and Papa Hunter, Loree, and Jocelyn brought Calvin and we all got to visit.

Stem Cell Harvest
The first day was rather tedious. Not only did Sawyer have to stay in bed for the day but he had to be in a certain position so his blood flowing out and in had the same pressure. It meant he was kind of limited with the activities we could pass the time with, but he made do. The machine behind him pulls his blood out spins it in a centrifuge and separates the different components collecting the stems cells with the white blood cells and then pumps them into a bag. Then it returns the remaining blood components back to him. The wonders of modern medicine!
We got the dinosaurs to the island!
